A total of UGX 622,068,320 was early this month given out by Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Area (BMCA)

management to the District Local Governments of Kisoro, Kabale and Kanungu as Revenue Sharing and Gorilla levy funds to implement community projects in parishes neighbouring the protected area.
The money was disbursed under the UWA Revenue Sharing Policy where UWA gives back to the communities neighbouring protected areas. Most of the beneficiary projects are livelihood projects and projects related to problem animal management. The minority Batwa communities were also considered as a special interest group and will benefit from 15% of the funds going to sub counties where Batwa exist.
