Celebrations to mark 50 years of Kidepo Valley National Park and the commissioning of the first ever Uganda Wildlife Authority Intelligence ranger force were the key highlight of the month of August 2013.  

On a sad note however, death robbed the authority of her long serving publicist, friend and voice, the Public Relations manager Ms Lillian Nakato Nsubuga, Ms Christine Achan Oryema a personal secretary to the Chief Conservation Area Manager (CCAM) as well as other field staff Mr. Ambrose Mujurizi, Francis Kato and Julius Musinguzi. May their souls rest in eternal peace.

Still with tourism, Kidepo Valley National Park made it to the list of nominees by the World Travel Awards (WTA) for the leading national parks in Africa, the head of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) retained his seat as Secretary General while leading female conservationists were recognized for their leadership in conservation.

The new payment system using a wildlife card was successfully piloted in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and at UWA headquarters and will soon roll out to other national parks. More affordable accommodation and restaurant facilities managed by UWA have come up in Moroto, Mbale and Mweya (Queen Elizabeth National Park) with the revamped picturesque Tembo canteen facing the Kazinga channel and the lower camp accommodation facilities fully functioning.
