The training is part of UWA function under the Conservation Department in its strategy to develop maximum cooperation between UWA and URA customs administration in detecting and preventing the smuggling and trafficking of wildlife specimens.

UWA's Community Conservation Coordinator Mr. Asa Kule Musinguzi said the training is critical towards sustainable wildlife conservation and management as the course will provide abundant knowledge to the customs officers who play a key role in wildlife trade procedures as he/she is the only person who sees both the specimen and the permit simultaneously.

After the first training session, Mr. Okoth Charles URA Manager Busia Customs said "Having seen what has transpires at Entebbe Airport International Airport over the years, this training is long overdue and I agree that indeed customs staff have an upper hand in controlling the illicit trade of the endangered flora and fauna.
