In a momentous ceremony held at the Police Training School Kabalye in Masindi District, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Kahinda Otafii
re, officially inaugurated the eagerly anticipated 17th Edition of the Interforces Games 2023. The event brought together four key security forces in Uganda, including the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police, Uganda Prisons Services, and Uganda Wildlife Authority, under the theme of fostering collaboration and camaraderie among the forces.
During his address, Minister Otafire emphasized that the games were not merely about winning, as every participant was considered a winner. He stressed that the primary objective of the Interforces Games was to promote closer cooperation among the security forces, highlighting the importance of their collective efforts in ensuring a safe and secure Uganda.
Maj. General Tumusiime Katisgazi, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, paid homage to t
he visionaries who conceived the concept of the Interforces Games. He acknowledged the positive impact of this platform in fostering true inter-agency cooperation and ensuring fruitful partnerships among the security forces.
The Representative of the Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier General Daniel Kakono echoed Minister Otafire's sentiments, emphasizing that the games served as an avenue to strengthen the existing spirit of cooperation among the forces. It was underscored that through such initiatives, the security agencies could enhance their coordination and forge stronger bonds.
In attendance was Dr. Muge George the Director of Prisons incharged of Cooperation and Corporate Affairs who represented of the Commissioner General of Prisons, expressed gratitude for the games, stating that they acted as a constant reminder of the crucial importance of cooperation among the forces. This cooperation, he stressed, was vital in maintaining a safe and secure environment in Uganda.
Representing the
Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Sam Mwandha, the Head of Communication and Public Relations,
Bashir Hangi, highlighted the significance of the games in promoting not only physical fitness but also camaraderie among the troops. He specifically emphasized the need for the spirit of camaraderie to permeate the games from start to finish.
The 17th Edition of the Interforces Games will feature a range of disciplines, including range shooting, football, athletics, darts, volleyball, handball, netball, and taekwondo. Beyond the competitive spirit, the games will serve as a platform for security forces to come together, fostering a stronger sense of brotherhood and sisterhood among all participants.
The Interforces Games stand as a testament to the commitment and dedication of the security forces in Uganda. By embracing collaboration and camaraderie, the forces aim to enhance their collective effectiveness in safeguarding the nation.
