Uganda Wildlife Authority on April 26, 2025, had the honor of hosting His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, the reigning King of Tooro Kingdom, at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. As part of his 25-year development plan to promote Uganda's tourism potential, the King embarked on an unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure.

Accompanied by members of the Royal Family, His Majesty trekked through the lush forests at Nyamishamba outpost, one of Bwindi’s prime gorilla trekking sites. The King had the rare privilege of encountering the Binyindo family, a habituated group of mountain gorillas, offering him a firsthand glimpse into the wonders of Uganda’s rich biodiversity.

Along the trail, His Majesty observed a variety of flora and fauna unique to Bwindi’s ancient rainforest, further deepening his appreciation for Uganda’s extraordinary natural heritage. He commended the Uganda Wildlife Authority for its remarkable conservation efforts to protect the endangered mountain gorillas and preserve their habitat.

The King’s visit to Bwindi follows his previous tours to Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park, all part of his broader campaign to showcase Uganda’s natural treasures and attract greater international attention and support for the country’s tourism sector.

Speaking after the trek, His Majesty emphasized the critical role of conservation and responsible tourism. "Many people do not know the value of nature, which is why you find encroachment on conservation land and rampant poaching, leading to the extinction of some species. I urge all Ugandans to have retreats within our own beautiful landscapes, rather than seeking holidays abroad and leaving these treasures unexplored," he said.

UWA Executive Director, Dr. James Musinguzi, expressed gratitude to the King for choosing to visit Bwindi, noting that his presence is a major boost to tourism promotion efforts. "His Majesty’s support for tourism and conservation is deeply inspiring and aligns with our mission to safeguard Uganda’s natural heritage for future generations," Dr. Musinguzi said.

Dr. Musinguzi presented His Majesty with an official Gorilla Trekking Certificate and a specially gifted portrait of a silverback gorilla, a symbol of the strength and resilience of Uganda’s wildlife.
