On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, officially launched the second edition of the Uganda Conservation Media Awards.

The announcement was made on March 3, 2024 during the celebrations held in Kyenjojo, where leaders, distinguished guests, and media professionals gathered to recognize the significant contributions of the media towards wildlife conservation.

In her remarks, Prime Minister Nabbanja emphasized the invaluable role played by media professionals in advancing the cause of wildlife preservation. She highlighted the crucial part media plays in fostering a collective commitment to safeguarding Uganda's rich biodiversity.

"Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, it is my honor to announce the launch of the second edition of the Uganda Conservation Media Awards 2024," Prime Minister Nabbanja stated. "As we celebrate World Wildlife Day, we should unite in recognizing and appreciating the pivotal role media plays in nurturing our commitment to the preservation of Uganda's diverse and unique ecosystems."

Mr. Sam Mwandha, the Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), articulated the relationship between UWA and the media in championing wildlife conservation efforts. "UWA works closely with the media, we recognize the role journalists play in disseminating information and shaping public perception about the importance of wildlife conservation in Uganda", he stated.

Mwandha further highlighted the rationale behind the Uganda Conservation Media Awards, noting, "These awards are designed to serve as a motivational mechanism, encouraging journalists to contribute more robustly through their stories and reports towards fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the conservation of wildlife."

The launch of the second edition signifies the continued commitment of the Uganda Wildlife Authority together with our partners WiildAid to promote and recognize the essential role media plays in the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve the country's biodiversity.

The Uganda Conservation Media Awards 2024 promise to be a platform for acknowledging and rewarding excellence in media coverage that contributes to the greater goal of preserving Uganda's natural treasures.
